“For Connoisseurs”: the results of the contest
We thank the president of St. Petersburg aikido club “Sutemi-dojo” Vasiliy Shadrin who set the questions and provided detailed comments on the participants’ answers. We thank all those who took part in the contest and showed persistence and willingness to get closer to the truth in search of the answers. The main prize, a ticket to the aikido festival “White Nights – 2010”, goes to the participant Student. According to the conditions of the contest, Student also gets very valuable prizes: aikido books signed by Tamura sensei and Yamada sensei, a ticket to the seminar of Stephan Benedetti in St. Petersburg (January 29-31, 2010) and a bokken. |

We congratulate the winners of Oscar award!
| The 10th anniversary world-wide sport martial arts Oscar award presentation took place in Atlantic-city, the USA, on January 8 and 9, 2010. Three Russian representatives were nominated for this prestigious martial arts prize. All three of them are members of St. Petersburg branch of Russian Union of Martial Arts:

Seminar with Stephane Benedetti (6th dan Aikikai)
| Seminar with Stephane Benedetti (6th dan Aikikai) will be held in St. Petersburg from January, 29 to January, 31 2010. The seminar is organized by International Euro-Asian Federation of Aikido, National Aikido Council of Russia, Aikido Federation of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region as part of the State Programme "Health of the Nation". We invite all wishing to take part in the seminar.

Iaido: Seminar with Christophe Marie
International seminar in Iaido Muso Shinden-ryu in the sections "Iai" and "Kenjutsu" will take place in St. Petersburg on April, 16, 17, 18 2010. The seminar will be conducted by the teacher of European Iaido Federation Christophe Marie, kuden (France). The seminar will be organized by the Russian branch of European Iaido Federation, St. Petersburg Aikido Federation with the support of Russian Union of Martial Arts as part of the State program "Health of the Nation".

New Year greeting from the President of IEAAF
 I congratulate all aikido practitioners on the new year of 2010. Aikido is an amazing art, which bands people together and moreover opens new opportunities to discover oneself and the surrounding world. Harmony, love and unification - what splendid words they are. All the same they are aikido principles. And if reverting to these principles, one cannot but become a good person. I would like to wish you health, good luck and joyful days. Interesting video: Film Island of Hope
| We begin to place informative materials into the section "Video – Films". These materials are not directly connected with aikido, but they reflect unconventional ideas and active social position, which are congenial to many aikido practitioners in our opinion. The film "Island of Hope" is the first video of this kind at our site. The film is about Sergey Alexeevich Alexeev, who was the prototype of the central character of the film "Lads" directed by Dinara Asanova (the role was performed by Valery Priemykhov). Sergey Alekseev was an enthusiast, a leader and a talented teacher. He was the first who started to work with the so called "problem children" in order to reeducate them. The most important achievement among his merits was not even drawing attention of the state to the problem and not gathering unique teaching staff, but devising a system of reeducation of the lads. There were surprising results. Instead of lading hearts with sorrow, dozens of problem children could get better thanks to S.V. Alekseev.

You are welcome to participate in the "Contest for Connoisseurs" of history, etiquette, terminology and other aspects of the unique martial art of aikido. The questions were set by the President of the club “Sutemi-dodjo” Vasiliy Nikolaevich Shadrin (St. Petersburg). In spite of their seeming easiness, they will demand from you a profound knowledge and probably diligent search for the right answers. Your erudition and active participation will be rewarded with special prizes on summing up the contest. Andrei Marienkov Seminar in Voronezh
| Setup seminar on Iaido Muso Shinden ryu and planned seminar on Aikido Aikikai took place in Voronezh on December 03-06, 2009. The seminar was organized by the Russian Branch of the European Iaido Federation under support of the National Aikido Council of Russia and the St Petersburg Aikido Federation in cooperation with the Voronezh Aikido Federation. The event took place in the framework of the "Health of the Nation" state program. The seminar was supervised by Andrei Marienkov (4th Dan Aikido Aikikai, 2nd Dan Iaido Muso Shinden ryu), Assistant to St Petersburg Aikido Federation President, Administrative Director of the Russian Branch of the European Iaido Federation. The 4 days long seminar attended around 30 students of Aikido clubs in Voronezh.
