Aikido Federation of Volgograd region
The Volgograd regional public organization the "Aikido Federation of the Volgograd region" was founded on August 19, 2001 by the initiative of Alexei Vyacheslavovoch Sitnikov (3rd Dan aikido Aikikai), who was the first president of this organization. But as he had moved to another place of residence, he must have abandoned this office, but was continuing to maintain close friendly relations with the Federation, give methodical and organizational support, hold seminars and master classes.

At present, the head of the "Aikido Federation of the Volgograd region" is Vadim Anatolievich Yakovlev (2nd Dan of aikido Aikikai).

He began his training in martial arts in 1987, like many practitioners, first in karate that was then all but prohibited. His first teacher was one of pioneers of this kind of martial arts in Volgograd, Vladimir V. Lyashchenko, who drew his attention to aikido practically unknown to young people of Volgograd. Vadim Yakovlev overcame the long way from the complete inability to understand and accept this martial art to its recognition, admiration and attachment. In his own words, at present it is impossible for him to think how he would live without aikido… For the long time, together with his friends, aikido enthusiasts, he was learning and training aikido by books or, to a lesser extent, using teaching video film aids. The turning point was his acquaintances with Alexei Sitnikov who moved to Volgograd from Vladikavkaz; to that moment, he had the 1st Dan of aikido Akikai. Alexei made lessons and training more regular and founded an aikido section in Volgograd that became later the basis for creation of the Federation. He was also the first man who initiated a trip of the Federation delegation to take part in seminars of Stephane Benedetti (6th Dan of aikido Aikikai). In 2001, the aikidoka’s of Volgograd participated for the first time in the White Nights aikido festival in Saint Petersburg, where they watched Tamura sensei and were deeply impressed by his techniques, charisma and inner strength.

The Aikido Federation of the Volgograd region consists of three aikido clubs in Volgograd where there are training approximately 150 students living in the city and the region. The collective member of the Federation is the Volgograd regional public organization "Mutokukai" (Chairman – Alexander Vladimirovich Tkachenko, 2nd Dan aikido Aikikai).

Alexander Tkachenko began his training in hand-to-hand fighting in 1986 as a student of a military school and continued it while being the soldier of the Soviet Army. In 1995 – 1994, he participated in All-Russian hand-to-hand fighting tournaments. In the year 2001 he started his study of aikido Aikikai under the guidance of Alexei Sitnikov (3rd Dan of aikido Aikikai). In the years 2005 and 2007 he was attested to receive the 1st and the 2nd Dan of aikido Aikikai by the master Stephane Benedetti.

Mutokukai is a nonformal association of clubs under technical supervision of Stephane Benedetti, a student of shihan Tamura Nobuyoshi. According to the definition by Stephane Benedetti, all these clubs are united by the identical concept of the traditional aikido to be practiced according to the principle of search and discoveries. Mutokukai is not presumed to grant any degrees; it exists only to offer to those interested in martial arts the possibility to meet each other and exchange information. You can be received everywhere as a friend or as a member of the family. My home is your home, the first step to the universe family, because the family shall lie at the heart of aikido, according to the concept of Morihei Ueshiba. No form shall be filled in when entering or leaving. You can enter, if you want, and leave, if you decide to. Mutoku is a buddhist term describing selfless behavior of a bodhisattva, one enlightened in essence who devoted himself to liberation of all beings. The compassion shall presume that a person must not expect to receive anything in exchange, no gratitude or recognition; all his actions shall be essentially unpaid for in any form. The way is the Journey; the Journey is the Way.

The Aikido Federation of the Volgograd region exerts every efforts to make aikido popular. The Federation is a member of the All-Style Aikido Federation of Russia, takes part in its events and represents the All-Style Aikido Federation of Russia on the territory of the city and the region of Volgograd. In 2007 the Aikido Federation of the Volgograd region held in Volgograd the international aikido seminar under supervision of Stephane Benedetti.

Though the Aikido Federation of the Volgograd region is comparatively young, it had formed its traditions. One of beneficial traditions is organization of the summer training camp on the riverside of Khoper – one of the ecologically clean European rivers. It is necessary to mention also training and attestation seminars held under supervision of Ivan Novikov (4th Dan aikido Aikikai) twice a year.
