Federation of Aikido and Aikijujutsu of Stavroposky Region

Tigran Vladimirovich Elbekyan is the President of the Federation of Aikido and Aikijujutsu of Stavropolsky Region. He holds the 4th Dan of aikido Akikai, the 3rd Dan of aikijujutsu, the 2nd Dan of jojutsu, 1st Dan of kenjutsu.

T.V. Elbekyan was born on August 29, 1957 in the city of Pyatigorsk, Stavropol Territory. He became interested in martial arts from his youth. In 1980, while living and working in Moscow, he began his training in Shotokan karate, the most popular kind of Eastern martial arts in that time. It was thought that training in karate must impart more self-assurance and good physical shape and that is quite important to the young man. While engaged in these studies, the young man became interested in other martial arts, less known in the USSR. In the end of 1980s, there appeared many films, books and articles about Eastern martial arts, and among them there were materials about aikido. This kind of martial arts, with its specific richest inner philosophic world, offers great possibilities for development of the harmonized human personality. By studying aikido and perceiving its principles the people may discover for themselves quite new ideas of love and harmony in the Universe.

In the mid-90s, T.V. Elbekyan and his friends started to practice aikido making use of teaching aids available at that moment. Within a few years, the number of aikido fans grew up considerably, making it possible to found the aikido club of Kavkazskiye Mineralnye Wody in 1998.

It was necessary for them to find aikido masters, and they sought for them for a long time, and at last Tigran Vladimirovich met the President of the Aikido Federation of North Osetia Pavel Viktorovich Kishinets.

In 2004, Tigran Vladimirovich promoted the foundation of the Public Organization of Kavminwody Regional Aikido Federation and became its President. In 2005 Tigran Elbekyan took part in the international White Nights aikido festival in Saint Petersburg and was attested for the 1st Dan of aikido Aikikai by Yamada sensei. In 2006, the leaders of the Federation adopted a resolution to change the name of the organization to the Federation of Aikido and Aikijujutsu of the region of Kavkazskiye Mineralnye Wody. In the same year Tigran Elbekyan was attested for the 1st Dan of aikijujutsu. In 2007, he was attested for the 2nd Dan of aikido Aikikai by Yamada sensei. In 2008, he was attested for the 2nd Dan of aikijujutsu and 1st Dan of jojutsu, In April 2009, he won the kumite championship of Russia among veterans, whole his students won the championship of Russia in various age categories.

At present, FAA KMW comprises several aikido sections located in other cities and towns of the region of Kavkazskiye Mineralnye Wody.

FAA KMW is the official and authorized representative of the All-Style Aikido Federation of Russia, as well as a branch of the Official representation of Tamura sensei on the Stavropol Territory.

Members of the Federation participate permanently in events organized under the aegis of National Aikido Council of Russia, International Euro-Asian Aikido Federation, All-Style Aikido Federation of Russia; those who achieve the necessary level of mastership are duly attested beginning from the 1st Dan by Japanese masters of aikido.

The Federation of Aikido and Akijujutsu of Kavkazskiye Mineralnye Wody is constantly working on the development and popularization of Aikido and Aikijujutsu in its region. It has become a good tradition to hold annualy in Pyatigorsk the training and certification seminars led by Valery Skrylev.

The Federation maintains friendly relations with organizations, practicing aikido and other martial arts, not only in the Southern Federal District of Russia, but also outside it.
